Timber Floating floor does not need to be fixed to the sub floor by nail or glue. As long as the plainness and smoothness of the sub floor meet the flooring requirements, floating floor can be laid on top.
When we install the floating floor, the underlay (a sort of foam pad) is needed to be laid first between the sub floor and floating floor. It helps to reduce step sound on floorboards and makes the floating floor comfortable to use.
Usually floating floor will take up some moisture from surrounding environment and expand a little bit in the future. A 10-15 mm gap should always be placed between the floating floor and the walls, which allow the future expansion of the floating floor boards. The gap can be covered by skirting or beading.
Floating flooring is an installation method rather than a flooring style. There are bamboo floating floors, laminate floating floors and timber floating floors. But in current market, most of time, the term is used to describe engineered floating timber floor. Bamboo floating flooring uses the same click-lock system as laminate flooring.
